Every year in Texas over 100 women are killed by their intimate partner; over 50% of those killed had ended their relationship or where in that process and 78% of those victims died in their homes. Domestic Violence kills whether victims stay or leave.
In an effort to increase victim safety and hold offenders accountable, Grayson Crisis Center has partnered with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Denison & Sherman Police Departments, and the Grayson County Criminal District Attorney’s Office to form a Domestic Violence High Risk Team (DVHRT).
As one of only 11 coordinated community response teams of its kind in Texas, these four Grayson County Agencies have committed to working together to identify high risk domestic violence cases early and provide continued, on-going interagency support to the victims while holding the offenders accountable for their actions.
In four months, the team has already identified more than 200 cases where the victim is at an increased risk of dying at the hands of their intimate partner.
