Position: Kitchen/ Shelter Support Staff (Including Janitorial Duties)

Job Summary: The Crisis Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Kitchen/Shelter Support Staff. In this role, you will be responsible for providing support and assistance in the kitchen, shelter, and janitorial areas of the crisis center. Your primary goal will be to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen and shelter facilities, maintain cleanliness and hygiene, and provide a safe and comfortable environment for individuals in crisis.
Responsibilities:
Kitchen Duties:
- Prepare and serve meals to individuals staying at the crisis center, following established menus and dietary guidelines.
- Assist with meal planning and preparation, ensuring that meals meet the nutritional needs and preferences of individuals in crisis.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of waste properly.
- Monitor food inventory and assist with grocery shopping to ensure an adequate supply of food and supplies.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure efficient meal service and smooth operation of the kitchen.
Janitorial Duties:
- Perform janitorial duties in various areas of the crisis center, including kitchen, dining room, playroom, laundry room, vacant client rooms, administration offices, and bathrooms.
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
- Clean and sanitize surfaces, including countertops, tables, cabinets, furniture and equipment.
- Empty trash and dispose of waste properly.
- Clean windows and mirrors.
- Restock supplies in common areas and restrooms.
- Ensure that all areas are well-maintained and presentable.
Other Duties:
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the shelter areas, office space, organizing areas, and addressing any maintenance issues.
- Collaborate with other staff members and volunteers to create a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals in crisis.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills related to crisis intervention and support services
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a kitchen, shelter, or janitorial setting is preferred.
- Meal planning, cooking and food preparation required.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
- Demonstrated empathy and compassion towards individuals in crisis.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Employee must demonstrate knowledge of and performance in accordance with the philosophy of compassion, caring and respect of the welfare and dignity of others, including clients of agency, as well as staff and volunteers.
- Must embody the values of trauma informed care on an agency wide level and perform all duties with a victim centered approach and discipline.
